FromFrench, Mardi Gras directly translates to “Fat Tuesday.” And no, it doesn’t refer to eating as much as possible on that day (although that’s also definitely allowed). It actually refers to the Christian custom of eating all of the fats in the house before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. The latter refers to the 40 days in the run-up to Easter, during which many Christians choose to give up luxuries, including certain foods. Today, however, Mardi Gras has become more of a celebratory occasion, particularly in New Orleans.
Mardi Gras is a religious holiday but I really like the colors. Yellow, purple, green. I went to 4 stores today trying to find a single Mardi Gras thing but they were all sold out. Instead I got a yellow Bell Pepper, and spinach and Red cabbage. Using veggies to find my colors! I also have food coloring from Whole foods and I am going to make a king cake!
My goal this year is to make every single holiday VEGAN! And I plan on sharing all my recipes with you!
I am trying to do just that with my FREE Going Vegan guide. Let me bust the misconceptions about vegans and show you how easy it is for you to make more ethical decisions with your food!
People can be weird about vegans. There was definitely an attempt for them to be labeled as “crazy” or “extreme”. But veganism is about wanting to reduce and eliminate the harm and suffering of animals. That’s not crazy. When you treat people with dignity nd respect, everything is better.
People aren’t always going to be friendly or welcoming towards the word VEGAN.
It’s hard going vegan and dealing with people reactions .Remember dealing with people who don’t like vegans, that you are perfectly in your right to declare a need for an ethical meal. IF they don;t respect that basic fact are they really family. I often get caught up in the fear of judgment about being vegan. But remember that the morality you feel matters much more.
The best way to get people to trust in vegans is to provide access to yummy food. If people could see how tasty and easy it is to go vegan, I think we’d have a lot more vegans!
Bring new dishes and if you’re going to a group thanksgiving bring a side that won’t be competing with someones famous recipe. In my experience, if there are two dishes that are the same, but one is vegan and the other is not, you might as well decorate your serving bowl with caution tape. A lot of people won’t be going past it. I’ve heard that children have to be introduced to a food 13 times before they try it. Sometimes I don’t think adults are that far off. People tend to gravitate towards what is familiar. If you give them the option of what they have always had or something new, most people will pick the former. If you just say, hey, it’s gravy, and there aren’t any classifications, people are more likely to just try it and like it. Also, in my experience people seem less hesitant about trying store-bought items. Maybe they already trust Trader Joe’s? Or the local take-out place already seen as legitimate? For whatever reason, I’ve found that if I bring a prepared item still in its container or takeout packaging, people are more willing to try it.

To keep chakras balanced, it’s important to create alignment in both your physical and mental state. Breathing exercises and relaxation meditation can help you reach this alignment. A yoga pose for a corresponding chakra can also open and balance it.
I have been really gettin into Chakras lately! They have been super fun to learn about. Follow my Youtibe series to see more
Root Chakra
In Balance: Balance in the first chakra allows you to feel grounded and confident.
Too Much: Excess energy in this chakra leads to greed and cockiness.
Not Enough: Low energy in this chakra can leave you feeling unhinged or disconnected from your job, family, and true self.
Solar Plexus Chakra
In Balance: Balance in the second chakra allows you to feel comfortable in your own skin and accepting of your emotions. It also allows for creative expression of self.
Too Much: When the sacral chakra is overenergized, you may look past your faults and become hyperfocused on pleasure. It can lead to excessive indulging and co-dependence.
Not Enough: Low energy can lead to creative blocks, feeling unloved, and emotional roller coasters.
Heart Chakra
In Balance: When energy flows freely, you will experience compassion, love, and acceptance.
Too Much: If you are experiencing jealousy or feeling clingy, you may have too much heart energy.
Not Enough: Signs that your heart chakra may be blocked or low in energy include feeling shy or lonely, or experiencing an inability to forgive.
Throat Chakra
In Balance: When the throat chakra is in balance, you feel authentic and are a confident conversationalist and good listener.
Too Much: If you know the expression “all choked up” then you understand what too much throat chakra energy might feel like—an emotional overload. It is also associated with manipulative behavior, arrogance, and being too talkative.
Not Enough: When the throat energy is low, there can be a tendency to feel shy or reticent or to act in a passive-aggressive way.
Third-Eye Chakra
In Balance:Ajna means “beyond wisdom,” and in balance you experience expanded imagination, clairvoyance, synchronicity, and intuition.
Too Much: When the third eye chakra is overactive, the mind races. You can feel that buzzy energy of over-caffeination or sleeplessness. It can be difficult to concentrate or stay on task.
Not Enough: Low or blocked Ajna energy impedes your ability to remember and concentrate. Processing speed slows and you may be prone to procrastination and indecision.
Crown Chakra
In Balance: In balance, this chakra maintains your self-awareness, wisdom, and connection to the inner compass that guides you to your highest self.
Too Much: Signs of too much crown energy include materialism and rigid self-identity.
Not Enough: Low crown energy leads to depression, a sense of disconnection from life, and a lack of compassion.

I have been wanting to do a year reading but I have been putting it off 🙁 I am not sure why. Tarot always makes me feel better. I think I was just waiting until I felt more settled after the move but honestly. BLAH. I dont think i will ever feel settled. I was doing some googling for my Black Cat Tarot Guide. I was debating having a section in the book on different tarot spreads. So I was google different tarot spread just to see what information was already out there. I found this article on Biddy and I was like do a reading right now.
I have been super anxious. I have a whole new living situation at home. My boyfriend and I moved into a house and got a roommate. I have not been very good at setting boundaries and my avoidant personality has lead me to be like well ignore this. But the situation hasnt gotten better by ignoring it and honestly I need to suck it up and set some firm boundries. But its hard. I feel a little crazy for standing up for myself. I feel like its bringing up a lot of past trauma for me.
So I just got the Happy Halloween Tarot which just had a banging successful kickstarter! And I love this deck and I was thinking I cant wait to do readings with it. So why not do a reading right now!?
So here we go:
Card 1: 6 of swords (previous year in summary)
Card 2: Queen of wands (What I learned from last year)
Card 3: 2 of wands (Aspirations for the next 12 months)
Card 4: 8 of swords (what impowers me to achieve aspirations)
Card 5: king of swords ( what stands in the way)
Card 6: 7 of pentacles (emotions)
Card 7: knight of swords (Career)
Card 8: king of cups (health)
Card 9: 9 of swords (spirit)
Card 10: death (focus)
Card 11: two of cups (most important lesson)
Card 12: queen of cups (where this year is headed)
For Cards 1 & 2 These are the energies I carry from last year; These are the energies that are passing out of my life and what I can carry forward with me into the new year. I have realized lately that I really need to let go. Life is filled with moments when we are going to be forced into letting go of things that we have become attached to. Maybe for me it’s my boyfriend and I living together as a pair. We are not a pair now we are a tricycle. We share a house with another person our two person dynamic must change. This will be challenging. The Six of Swords shows the sadness that we may be feeling, but we have to remember that the pain will not last, so we should look instead to the future for strength. We will have to go thru hard things to become stronger. And tho I often feel strong enough I must keep a growth mindset.
For Card number two the lesson to remember is patience. the Queen of wands signifies that we are planning to accomplish a significant amount of achievement in just a small amount of time. Generally speaking, in terms of my career, things are looking pretty good. I just had a successful kickstarter and I am about to launch a bunch of projects. Including a online course and a podcast. The Queen of Wands meaning may pertain to a spiritual hunger, a quest, or a search for meaning. And all thru this process of growth recently, I feel most happy when I align with my purpose. I want to help people. And as a personal trainer I only have so many hours in the day. And designing a course allows more people to benefit from my knowledge and hopefully gain insights into their life to be healthier and happier!
Card 3 looks at my aspirations for the year ahead and what it is I truly want to achieve. A Minor Arcana card may indicate what actual endeavours you want to accomplish. The Two of Wands is a more mature version of the ace of wands, meaning that that this card is all about planning and moving forward – progression. That’s what I need to focus on is progress forward! I have already set out to achieve a particular task, which means I have turned an idea into a realistic plan. Such a plan will require fulfillment and therefore you have to progress from just having the plan to actually achieving what you set out for. I have to do the things now. It is not merely enough to simply have the plan now I must take action. For some reason this fills me with such hope. I feel really good about my career. I am back in school, I am finally making money with my art. It’s almost like the only issue in my life now is setting boundaries in relationships. Discovery is huge with this card and I definitely feel it within myself. This is because it means that you are stepping out of your cocoon and exploring new experiences and worlds. While the beginning might seem tough and difficult, the Two of Wands card encourages us to strive on and push forward.
For Cards 4 & 5 we look at what will empower us and challenge us as we work towards our aspirations. What energy can you harness to make the most of the year ahead? What energy may potentially stand in your way? By understanding the challenges, you can plan ahead and deal with potential issues as they arise, rather than having them take you by surprise.
I guess my whole life I have strived in the struggle. I was kind of bummed when I drew the Eight of Swords. This card to me, represents feeling trapped, confined, restricted or backed into a corner or having your hands tied. Not a good feeling at all. It signifies fear, terror, anxiety and psychological issues. It is a Minor Arcana card of hopelessness, helplessness, powerlessness, slavery, persecution and being silenced or censored. I think I often feel that way in my current living situation. I wasn’t totally on board moving and now it feels like a lot of change at once. And honestly it doesn’t feel like I have much options. I have been feeling the pressure and I feel in crisis. I have to remember and believe in my own power to control my situation because the overall theme of this card is that you are the one keeping yourself in this situation through negative thinking and allowing yourself to be paralysed by fear. I have been trying to run and avoid rather than poking the bear and starting the path towards healing. The longer you run, the farther away healing is. The swords depicted in the card are surrounding you but you can take the blindfold off and walk away at any time! I must remember my own power… This card also represents consequences and judgment which may take the form of trial by jury, imprisonment and punishment. I often judge myself and perhaps I need to remember more grace for myself.
What energy can you harness to make the most of the year ahead? What energy may potentially stand in your way? When I am in a negative headspace not remember my power I need to have safe guards in place to prevent myself from spiraling. My panick attacks have been out of control. The King of Swords appearing suggests that I should remain objective in my current situation – I must establish truth by sticking to the facts. The King of Swords and his intellectual power implies that you will need to use your intellect to make your point known and attain your goals. Besides your experience and education, you should be sharp and observant, to see deeply into problems that come your way. I need to remember and believe in my own power!
Cards 6 to 9 focus on the key areas in my life and what I can expect in each.
7 of pentacles (emotions)
knight of swords (Career)
king of cups (health)
9 of swords (spirit)
I have yet to draw a major Arcana in this reading, but I feel the most powerful card in this collection is the King of Cups. In a health context, the King of Cups can indicate healing and as such, is a positive card to get. I usually view this card as a positive. It reminds us to treat ourselves with empathy and kindness. I do feel emotionally positive about your health. I have found real healing with movement and exercise and I am so thankful for what my body can do. I have been running more, although I have not run since sunday which is a bummer. But I had been running more and rock climbing and I feel like this has helped me focus more on myself. I am looking at doing a bikini competition and maybe this is my sign!
When I think of The King of Cups, for me it is a card all about emotional maturity and signifies growing into a more balanced and responsible person. It’s like being the adult in the room. If this cards shows up, you are entering an era where you will be more aware of how your actions affect you and those around you. This awareness helps you to see a situation with compassion and nuance and act accordingly. I have let others needs always come before my own but that isnt good. I have to take care of myself. I much make sure I am giving from a cup that is full. When you are faced with difficult situation, this card encourages you to act like the King. Rather than giving in to your first hot-tempered instinct, pause, observe, and then react more carefully and productively. I am trying to do that currently. I was very upset by an interaction with my roommate, and i felt like I just snapped. So I just left the situation. I knew I couldn’t react with her in a reasonable way so i essentially left the room. I really miss my cat tho and do want to go home. I just wasnt comfortable or calm enough to set boundaries in that moment. Although I should have set boundaries sooner so we wouldnt have gotten here, but at least I am learning.
On to emotions! I have always felt not in control of my emotions until recently I have realized I am such an empath that when other people dont have control over their emotions I really really feel them I drew the Seven of Pentacles. Which is probably my favorite card in this deck! Black cats!!! Yay! Anyway this card relates to investment and effort. It follows the Six of Pentacles which refers to the end of financial or material hardship. If you have been putting in time and effort in your work, it signifies that your efforts are paying off and they are going to pay off in the future as well. For relationships to work you have to invest time an energy into them. If you are looking to invest, the Seven of Pentacles suggests that you are ready to put in a lot of effort, time and work into whatever you want to achieve. It means hard work ahead. It reaffirms you of your long-term vision and helps to show that you are not confined to seeing results in the short term only. It shows how much you value the investment because of the effort that you are willing to put in.
For career which I feel like I am doing the best at currently I drew The Knight of Swords…. This suggests that I have been quick to take action and tend not to plan ahead, instead preferring to dive right in. I am a diver for sure. Should I go back to school? I immediately signed up for 3 STEM classes. What?! I am crazy. I thrive on high levels of energy that propel you forward and inspire me to take action to manifest your goals. I am such a doer. If I write something on my todo list I do it. I have achieved everything I have tried to do. Somethings I am still failing at but I havent stopped trying and you cant fail until you stop trying. The Knight of Swords reminds us to be assertive in getting what we want. He doesn’t hang back and wait for something to happen. He is always making the first move and actively pursuing his goals. You can harness this energy in your life too by being proactive and forward-thinking. See yourself as the creator of your future and be ready to take the necessary steps to make it happen.
Finally In a spiritual context, the Nine of Swords indicates that the anxiety and stress I am experiencing at the moment has left me feeling overwhelmed, ungrounded and out of touch with your spiritual side. Reiki, grounding exercises or meditation would be beneficial to me right now to help me to get back in touch with your spirituality and bring me back into balance. I honestly have a bunch of wiccan books in my amazon shopping cart and I was thinking about getting all the supplies I need to get back in touch with my spirituality. This honestly has felt off to me. I need to get back to my daily card pulls and maybe doing some magic would help me or getting back out my runes! I really love Tarot and it feels so good to be doing this deep dive. I always feel better when I do a Tarot reading.
Card 10 provides a focus point for the year ahead. So often, we get caught up with day-to-day dramas that we lose sight of the bigger picture. Use this focus card to keep you on track and pinpoint what energy you most need to tap into throughout the next twelve months….
Ok so I drew the Death card…. I was a little bummed drawing this card. I havent drawn any of my “favorite” or happy cards. Death usually signifies spiritual transformation and a time of change and new beginnings, not actual death! The transformation or change that Death can bring can be difficult, unexpected, sudden or even traumatic but it will bring with it a new lease of life. I definitely feel like I am in a state of transition and back tot he start of this reading, I need to LET GO. Its best to try not to resist the change the Death Tarot card brings as resisting it will only make the transition difficult and painful. Instead try to embrace the change as a fresh start. This Major Arcana card can also signify the need to let go of old issues or beliefs when it appears in a Tarot spread. It may be telling you that you need to draw a line under the past in order to move forward in a positive direction. A Death card transformation can be a bit of a shock to the system but ultimately it’s a positive one. I think there are alot of parts of my past I can put down.
Death in a career context is a warning not to get too dependent on anything that is not working for you. I want change right now, I am embracing change. I feel like I have spent the last several months dealing with emotional trauma from my past. My life has changed so much recently. The only thing in life that is guaranteed is that things change. It will change some more.I have learned this year that any financial issues will be fine in the long run if you make the changes necessary. I have decided to change my motivation and focus and move away from previous patterns that spiraled me before. I am living in the mindset of abundance and I really feel it.
Physical death is a form of transformation when our spirits leave the physical body behind and transform back to the spiritual beings we all are intrinsically. The Death card represents spiritual transformation. In a spiritual Tarot reading, it indicates a time where you can deeply connect to your higher self and discover a depth of spirituality that you may not have even known you possessed. This spiritual transformation may be brought about by grief or loss or heartbreak that you have experienced. It can represent a difficult transition from an old situation to a new beginning. Try to embrace the change even if it is difficult, it’s leading you to your higher path.
I am going to trust myself and the universe in this next step for me. MY world is taking care of me.
Card 11 shows you the lesson you will learn over the coming year. Just like the previous year’s lesson, a Major Arcana shows a life-changing lesson, a reversed card shows a lesson that you’re not quite ‘getting’ and a Minor Arcana card shows a challenge or an actual endeavour that you’re working on.
This lesson is one of love. I think of the two of cups card as being the love card. It represents commitment, a balanced relationship, and love. But this does not simply mean that you will no longer need to nurture your love to make it last. The card only signifies that true love and affection is present. the Two of Cups is associated with fairness and balance. This means that you are currently financially capable and you have the right amount of money to deal with your obligations. In relation with your health, people who are currently facing some health issues need to look for a practitioner that they will be comfortable working with and whom they can trust. In spirituality, it is a call for you to be more endearing and loving towards the others. You are receiving positive energy from the universe, and you need to share that energy.
And finally, Card 12 highlights what to expect for the whole year. This is like the Outcome card in a Celtic Cross reading. Look back at the aspiration for the year (Card 3) and compare this with the outcome – will you achieve your aspiration( two of wands)? Will you overcome the challenges along the way (Card 5) ( king of swords) ? Will you harness the energy that will help you to get where you need to be (Card 4) (8 of Swords) ?
I love the card I ended with! Queen of cups! What an enlightening reading!
Now that I have shifted my work focus from making ends meet to reaffirming my purpose and sharing my knowledge and helping as many people as possible I have started to notice that my people appreciate me more. I have been asked to create MORE and share MORE. Everything new I create and give out to the universe I get back times 10! Queen of cups is seen as compassionate, caring, sensitive, and nurturing. She connects with people on the emotional level, so people enjoy her honesty and fairness. The appearance of the Queen of Cups in a reading can be guiding you to find help from others. Most times, like the other queens, this is a female figure that will come into your life. I feel so blessed to have so many amazing and inspirational women in my life right now. I feel so lucky to have the love and support from this dope girl group I have cultivated.
The Queen of Cups has an intuition which is very powerful, and is only rivaled by the one of the High Priestess. The Queen of Cups acts as a mirror and reflects the depths present in others, so they see themselves in a new light. Most times, the Queen of Cups can also represent the trusted inner voice you have within you. She seems to say that you should take the time to focus on your emotional health before trying to help others. Self-love creates compassion. I am really starting to believe in my own powerful intuition. Every time I do a tarot reading and feel this connection and understanding with the cards. Or I feel energy and feelings before things occur. This year I endeavor to tap into the hidden knowledge and sees where it takes me. The Queen of Cups normally thinks with her heart, instead of her mind. She can lack rationality and common sense, but she can also be intuitive, dreamy and almost psychic at times. The Queen of Cups could be the answer to your problems when a logical approach is not working.
So much food for thought, but I do feel lighter after this reading. Wow. I still want to do a month by month reading but I think I am going to wait until this weekend after I have finished some homework…
Thank you so much for reading this, what did the cards tell you? What are your lessons for 2022?
Whatever brought you as far as this page, you’ve already taken the all-important first step on your vegan journey. Here are some tried and tested tips to help this exciting process go smoothly.
Every Friday I will be sharing HOW to be a better Vegan, and HOW to start your vegan journey! So many great reasons to go Vegan!
Making small changes to your everyday meals is one of the easiest ways to increase the amount of plant-based foods in your diet. You could start by removing meat or dairy one day a week and go from there. Or you could try changing one meal at a time, having vegan breakfasts during your first week, adding a vegan lunch during week two and so on. You could even try changing one product at a time by swapping cow’s milk for almond or soya milk or butter for coconut oil or margarine. There’s a plant-based alternative for almost every type of food you can think of, so you don’t have to miss out on any of your favourite foods.
Have you ever wanted to try a vegan diet? Have you ever wanted to learn more about nutrition? Have you been wondering how to eat a Whole Foods based diet?
How do I start going vegan?
Begin by adding more plant-based foods to your diet as you slowly cut out meat, dairy, and egg products. Trying a new plant-based recipe once or twice a week or dining out at your local vegan restaurant is an exciting way to introduce new foods into your diet without feeling like you’re missing out.

I am trying to do just that with my FREE Vegan Thanksgiving guide.
Check out this youtube workout!
Here are some holiday recipes!
Remember you don’t have to eat everything on thanksgiving and focusing on enjoying the time with your loved ones is much more important that how much food is on your plate. Don’t feel pressured to eat meat for the sake of “tradition.”
Besides your obvious: Roasted green beans, mash potatoes, and bread. A super easy option is to bring hummus or dips and a plethora of veggies to dip! The more dips the better! There are almond butter”cheese” spreads and bean dips, as well as vegan ranch dressing. Bring veggies and vegan dips to a thanksgiving is great because everyone can enjoy them!
Sigh. Mashed potatoes. They’re as much a part of Thanksgiving dinner as pumpkin pie.
Tofurkey options
Grilled Tofu! Easiest option is grill a block of Tofu!
Buy a premade Tofurkey meat in the health section of the grocery store, like $12 at Smiths! Tofurky, the brilliant brand name that revolutionized Thanksgiving and mock meats forever, makes a lot more than a tofu turkey. Or their competitor Meatless brand. From the makers of Gardein brand plant-based meats comes this seasonal product, Plant-Based Turk’y Roast, a “boneless” breaded fake turkey roll stuffed with cranberry rice dressing.
Make your own Tofurkey! A homemade turkey alternative can be a fun and healthy addition to your meatless Thanksgiving table. In just a few steps you can have a stuffed tofu “turkey” breast to impress any guest. The tofu is blended until smooth, seasoned with herbs, and pressed and chilled. Then it is stuffed with your choice of vegan stuffing, formed into a log shape, and basted with a vinegar-Dijon-soy sauce mixture while it bakes, resulting in a beautiful golden color similar to roasted turkey skin.
Focus on the stuffing, a dinner of sides is still awesome and there’s going to be tons of proteins in the vegetables you are eating. The Veggies with the highest protein are Spinach, Asparagus, mustard greens, collard Greens, broccoli, peas!
Beans! Make a vegan chili!
Sauté the base veggies (onion, celery, peppers) and spices to create great flavor. Try adding corn and squash, maybe even pumpkin for a real fall theme)
Stir in the beans, tomatoes, and vegetable broth, then simmer until all the flavors combine. Try black beans, northern beans and pinto beans. Optional add a vegan “beef” crumble. Add green chili if you’re in New Mexico!
Top as desired ( Fritos, nutritional yeast, vegan cheese), then serve and enjoy!
Mash potatoes are super easy to prepare the night before. The wonderful thing about mashed potatoes is, they can be made ahead of time, then warmed in the oven when you’re ready.
Scalloped potatoes
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
Thinly slice the potatoes into ⅛-inch rounds. (food processor, by hand, precut) I like to keep the peels on for nutrition and time-saving reasons, but you’re welcome to peel them first.
In a large pot over medium heat, melt the vegan butter. Whisk in the flour and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes a roux, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Whisk the plant-based milk and vegetable broth into the roux. Stir in the nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until the sauce thickens, about 5 to 8 minutes.
Layer half of the potatoes in the casserole dish, pour half of the sauce spreading evenly over the potatoes and allowing it to seep through the cracks. Layer the rest of the potatoes and spread the rest of the sauce over them evenly. Cover with tin foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Uncover the casserole and bake for another 35 minutes
Over the summer I went to Europe for the first time…
I made a youtube video about my trip, do Pilates with me and here about my trip…
Here about my trip to Vienna and exercise with me…
Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. In the MuseumsQuartier district, historic and contemporary buildings display works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and other artists.
I had a wonderful time in Vienna
Schönbrunn Palace was the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers, located in Hietzing, Vienna. The name Schönbrunn has its roots in an artesian well from which water was consumed by the court.
the weather was perfect! We found a super cool mirror maze!
The imperial owners of Schönbrunn liked to tick the boxes on summer palace requirements. Overdo the number of rooms, put in gorgeous gardens, lay down some Roman Ruins, throw in a fountain or five, and install a maze.
(Editor’s note: technically, mazes and labyrinths are different things. I’m not sure which is which at Schönbrunn, not that it really matters. So I’m just going to talk about mazes.)
Those mazes of the past served as landscape features and a place for a gentle stroll, with tall hedges offering a degree of privacy.
Imagine the whispered conversations that took place within…courtly machinations and hints of treachery. Or maybe they just tittered over the Empress’s taste in wigs.
Schönbrunn got its first mazes around 1720 and one even played a role in a song mentioned in an 1860 magazine, where a wife plays tricks on her husband (my rough translation of the relevant excerpt):
They went out with my cousin in the early morning Into Schönbrunn and the menagerie And mother explained everything to him Then led my cousin into the maze Once inside, they lost my father And so my mother made a fool of my father
(Exit the mother in the arms of the good-looking cousin. It all sounds much better in German, believe me.)
The historical mazes more or less disappeared with time, neglect, and the cruel hand of history. Then in the late 1990s, a brand-new maze complex opened up.
we loved all the mazes, we couldn’t stop laughing..There was so much beauty…
Vienna has a long tradition on people centered urban planning that aims to improve well-being of its citizens.
Over the course of the 19th century, Vienna became transformed from a walled city to a planned urban capital. There was really no choice: Between 1800 and 1850 the city’s population doubled, and by 1910, had increased nine-fold. Vienna needed to redefine itself.
One of the first moves, in 1857, was to tear down the old city walls and military embankments to build the broad, tree-lined Ringstrasse, providing space for public parks and palaces for the wealthy, for theater, opera, houses of government and the finest hotels. It was a pastiche of different building styles – from the neo-Gothic Rathaus, Hellenic style Parliament, French Gothic Votivkirche, Italian Renaissance for one of the oldest universities in Europe alongside Otto Wagner’s graceful Jugendstil modernism. The Ring not only added character but also a space for the entertainment and recreation of the whole city.
there was a lot for tourists to do, lots of shopping!we loved the neighborhood we stayed in!
We saw so much Art in Vienna, this is one of my most favorite paintings
There were lots of Vegan food options in Vienna, loot at this Tofu quinoa bowl, it was absolutely deliciousI saw lots of cool murals while Running Vienna, it was a really safe and lovely city to run inso much was happening in the city! The weather was sunny….And really rainy..I did a lot of Math Homework in Vienna LOLI loved seeing so many Klimts!
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d’art. Klimt’s primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism.
We had so much fun!don’t worry I did lots of headstands…There were so many museums
There are over 100 museums and exhibitions in the Danube metropolis Vienna!
The city’s museums are among the best in the world, displaying many objects of global importance and featuring top international exhibitions.
Vienna is a bit of a paradise for art lovers. It’s hard to go a few metres without stumbling into something that would fetch a few million at Sothebys. Like these top artworks, for example.
I list current and future exhibition highlights here, but the main art and design museums include…
The Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History), which contains the prestigious paintings collection (Bruegel, Rubens etc.), the Kunstkammer chamber of wonders, the coin collection, the Egyptian collection, the Greek & Roman antiquities, and temporary exhibitions
The Albertina – home to a mammoth collection of art (including Albrecht Dürer’s Young Hare) and hosts many temporary exhibitions that stretch from renaissance etchings to contemporary sculpture. The permanent exhibition covers the likes of Monet, Picasso, Cézanne, Chagall etc.
The Albertina Modern on Karlsplatz focuses entirely (as you might guess from the name) on modern and contemporary art exhibitions
The Upper Palace with temporary and permanent exhibitions featuring everything from medieval to contemporary art. Home to a world-leading collection of Klimt paintings, including The Kiss
The Lower Palace with a permanent exhibition of medieval art, as well as temporary exhibitions that can feature anything from Dürer to Dalí
The Kunst Haus Wien – home to the Hundertwasser Museum and excellent photo exhibitions. The building itself is worth a look in its own right, before you even get to the works of art within
The MAK Museum of Applied Arts – a lovely museum covering (shock!) applied arts and design through history to the modern day. Notable for innovative and excellent temporary exhibitions
The Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien – hosts a series of high-quality international exhibitions on the more contemporary side of artistic life (think Hockney not Holbein)
The Heidi Horten Collection – museum dedicated to showcasing the modern and contemporary art collection put together by billionaire Heidi Goëss-Horten
The Gemäldegallerie (paintings gallery) of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna – home to Bosch’s The Last Judgment and other paintings by old masters, but the academy’s exhibition space(s) also feature contemporary art
The Wien Museum MUSA – another museum hosting short-term exhibitions. Usually focuses on Viennese themes, as well as showcasing the work of young artists
The Möbelmuseum Wien – the Vienna Furniture Museum filled with, well, furniture (but other items, too) that would make antique experts squeak with joy
WAGNER:WERK – a small and very specific museum that deals with the history of the postal savings bank and, particularly, the famous building that became its headquarters (a seminal moment in modern architecture)
Westlicht – home to a camera museum and regular photography exhibitions
The Augarten Porcelain Museum – attached to the famous company of the same name and displaying a mix of classic and contemporary porcelain pieces
The Schottenstift Museum – the abbey’s in-house museum with various secular and ecclesiastical treasures. Has the fabulous 15th-century Schottenaltar panels
The Ernst Fuchs Museum – housed in the restored Otto Wagner Villa and filled with the art, design, decor, and character of the renowned Austrian artist, Ernst Fuchs
The Dom Museum – home to many of the treasures of Stephansdom cathedral, but also (unexpectedly) some modern art
amazing works of artreally big art tooWe also drank lots of beer!
The biggest brands in Vienna include Ottakringer, Stiegl, Zipfer and Gösser, but you find plenty of small and private breweries and specialty beers, too, none of which should disappoint the discerning beer palate.
We had such a great time, here is me and my boyfriend in a pop up art exhibitI loved all the mazesand so many rosesWe did an auto tour of the palace and learned SO much history
Centuries after master composers such as Mozart and Strauss played in the city, Vienna still lives up to its reputation as the capital of classical music, with opera houses and concert halls inspiring aficionados with glorious performances all-year-round.
This Vegan pasta I got at a film festival was AMAZINGI would definably visit again!
If you have been following us, you know we have been releasing an episode every other week since February 2022. But we haven’t released an episode since the end of October.
And I am to blame for this.
I dropped the ball and I am sorry.
I started back at school and I have had a lot going on.
And as Amy told me when I asked her if we could record another episode, I haven’t been practicing what we preach on the podcast.
I haven’t been managing my time.
I haven’t been nice to myself with my thoughts.
I haven’t been a reliable friend or business partner to Amy,
I can personally go into all these reasons and excuses why I haven’t, but would that change anything? I let you guys down and I am here humbly asking for an apology.
This year has been a roller coaster. I started going back to school and its been much harder than I anticipated. I did a Bikini competition, I went to Europe for the first time, I had a lot of “tests” at home.
School for me, is my safe space. It is fun to learn new things. I am a good student.
But it’s been different this time.
I got a masters degree and my ego though that this would be EASY.
This hasn’t been easy.
First, It feels like my brain is slower, in my 30s its taking me longer to learn new things. I don’t just “get it” like I did the first time through school. Also I have never really taken STEM classes and now taking a full course load of Science classes I have been STRUGGLING,
People empathize with me, tell me about what study tactics worked for them in school. They tell me how there kids are doing in there freshman classes, and I know this is trying to connect with me, but to me it feels hollow. Almost insulting. Everyone seems to know how I could study better, like my study tactics are the issues and not just me. So I have refined my studied and focused almost exclusively on doing well in this thing that I don’t seem to be very good at. To say this has been humbling is an understatement.
I went to college already. I took a lot of hard classes, I got good grades, I got bad grades. I slacked off and I crammed. I got a hard degree, I had crazy deadlines. I wrote at 250 page thesis and got IRB approval. I did this already. I did the DAMN thing already.
I am a grown adult who is very “smart and educated” going back to school for entry level science classes at a community college. And it has felt like every class I get my ass handed to me. I almost feel dumber than when I started. I have spent entire weekends focused on school and have BOMBED quizes. I have spent HOURS at tutoring and still failed exams.
Comparing where I am now with other peoples educational journey often only feels like a slant brag, other people telling me how smart they are or how they have already done what I have done. Or how if only I knew what they knew I would be doing better. It feels patronizing and honestly its turned me off to most of my relationships.
Including my relationship with Amy. Not necessarily because of anything Amy has done or said, I know when she tells ma bout her grad school she’s coming from a place of love and wanting to share. But I would be lying if I didn’t share that I felt similar feelings, like I am a kid going to college the first time and I need advice.
It hurts my ego because, here I am struggling in entry level classes at a community college, and I feel STUPID. I know that this material is difficult for anyone, etc. My partner constantly reassures me that all learning as good and that it will get better. But I feel so dumb. and I feel even dumber every test, quiz or exam. I have never studied this hard in my life and I get 74%. It is SO fucking humbling.
I almost don’t feel “good enough” to even say I have gone to college before.
So here I have been, metaphorically being kicked on my ass and getting back up and doing it again over and over. I haven’t been my “happy self” I haven’t been seeing my personal training clients, I haven’t been exercising, I haven’t been making art.
I have been studying and isolating myself.
And I am not doing great in school, I worked my ass off for all these B’s I am about to get. and I am starting to feel proud of myself. But I have dropped all the other balls I have been juggling.
I haven’t been seeing my clients so my income has slowed. I am so broke. I feel like a poor college student for real. and it sucks. So even if I wanted a social life, I can’t even afford to do anything with my friends.
I haven’t been working out and I have found my temper is shorter. Things piss me off so much quicker. Exercise is my outlet for anxiety and depression and not exercising means I am just letting these feelings fester and take over me.
I haven’t been making any art. When I don’t make art it makes me feel unfulfilled. It makes me feel empty.
So here I am realizing it’s finals week and I want me life back, and I have inadvertently burned all these bridges because my fucking ego.
Why would Amy even want to hear from me, I am not my usual sunshine, I ama depressed ball of anxiety that feels awful. I don’t even want to text her how are you because I am afraid shell ask me how I am doing. I am not doing ok.
Why would Amy even want to hang out with me, I don’t have a car so she has to pick me up.
I feel like a huge failure and I was feeling so Low.
I called Amy and asked if she’s record a new episode of the podcast and she told me, “Thea I love you but you’ve been really fair-weather the last couple months”
She called me out on my bullshit.
And I really needed it. First it was nice to hear how much she loves me, but it’s also nice that she feels comfortable enough with me to say, before we record another episode we need to talk about this authentically, over 1000 new listeners of our podcast come to us asking for authenticity and giving them anything less would feel wrong.
Things won’t always be perfect. Life is not about destinations, focusing on ” I’ll be happy when I am done with school” means I am going to spend years unhappy. I have to learn to be in this process and take care of myself .
I am going to relisten to every episode and try to relearn these lessons with you guys.
So we are going to record our next episode about steps to do when you’re like me and have fallen off the bandwagon.
Never hold yourself to perfection, but hold yourself to trying to change those patterns you don’t like and those patterns that cause harm.
School is just going to get harder and I am trying to become a doctor, I need to better manage my time and better manage my ego and not push away those relationships that I need.
So I hold myself to these standards and I want you to hold me accountable. I would never ask you to do something I wouldn’t do myself.
Sometimes all you need is a friend to call you and remind you that you are loved.
You can use Tarot cards however they suit you. Because Tarot is simply a tool, and as with all kinds of tools, how you use it is completely up to you. Tarot is perfect for self-development, making choices, manifesting goals, coaching others, planning a business, writing a book, meditating—you name it. Tarot is the storybook of our life, the mirror to our soul, and the key to our inner wisdom. The most powerful way to read the Tarot is to use the cards to access your intuition and your inner wisdom. You are already so powerful. You are already much wiser than you give yourself credit for! The imagery in the cards give you instant access to your subconscious mind and your intuition. And from this place of inner power and wisdom, you can discover how to make positive changes now so you can manifest your goals and your dreams in the future.
My name is Thea. I have always loved the night sky. I grew up just outside of Albuquerque far enough from the “Big City” to see most of the night sky, including the Milky Way. I got into tarot when I was a really young. I was instantly drawn to the pictures and colors. Growing up admiring painters like Vincent Van Gogh and Leonardo Da Vinci. I wanted to paint cards like the ones my mom had. And I did! I created the Painted Tarot, currently available on Etsy! But after successfully completing that kickstarter, I realized that I wanted something a little big more in depth in terms of Astrology and Astronomy. So I created the Cats in Space Tarot Deck! It features pictures from Nasa to inspire wonder and the cutest cats!
This Tarot Deck features the traditional card layout in any Rider Waite deck! It features all 78 cards. The suits are Mars ( wands ), Neptune ( cups ), Earth ( pentacles ), and Mercury ( Swords ). It comes with a detailed guidebook. Please send me your Email. Currently the Guidebook is digital. Those who backed the kickstarter will receive a hardcopy of the guidebook. The physical guidebook should be available in 2 weeks!
In this deck the suits are represented as planets. I chose these planets based on their elements but also based on the photos and knowledge that NASA has, so I chose close planets. There may be more suited planets in this universe but we don’t have great photos or knowledge yet about all the cosmos. So I picked things close to home. Easy way to read the cards is when you draw a suit card think of it in terms of the following: • NEPTUNE Cups (element = water): Emotions, creativity, intuition, relationships • EARTH Pentacles (element = earth): Material wealth, money, career, manifestation • MERCURY Swords (element = air): Communication, truth, intellect, thoughts • MARS Wands (element = fire): Inspiration, energy, enthusiasm
I wanted to create a Tarot deck using two things I love. Who doesn’t love Cats? Who isn’t fascinated by Space?? After months of study and lots of cat drawings, I decided to use real cat pictures and REAL NASA photos for this tarot deck. There are other cat decks out there. But none like this one. This deck sets you off to take a journey through space. Each card pictures real photos from NASA with information on real space phenomena. All my sources are cited but the main source all comes back to NASA.gov There is a plethora of FREE fascinating knowledge available for you. I hope with this will deck to inspire you to look to the stars in wonder. I also hope you saw “AWE” a lot because these cats are so stinkin’ cute!
